Invitation: You are being invited to take part in a research study. For you to properly understand why this research is being conducted and what your role will be within it, please read this information sheet carefully.
What is the purpose of the study? The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between disgust sensitivity and health anxiety.
What will I have to do? First, you will be asked about your age and gender identity. Then you will be asked a series of questions about anxiety and health anxiety for which you will answer by selecting one of the presented answers. After this you will be asked to respond to a disgust sensitivity scale relating to three domains of disgust (pathogen, moral, and sexual). This questionnaire will last approximately 10 minutes. We consider your responses to be very valuable and hope that you will find this process a rewarding experience.
Do I have to take part? No, it is your decision to take part or not. If you choose to take part, then you will be asked to provide consent online. You will be free to withdraw from the study at any time up until the submission of your answers. You must be aged 18 years and over to participate.
What are the possible disadvantages and risks of taking part in the study? There are no anticipated disadvantages or risks to your participation in this study. However, if you feel that you may be overly impacted by any of the items related to anxiety, health anxiety, or pathogen, moral or sexual disgust, please do not take part.
Will my taking part in this study be kept confidential? Yes, no personally identifying information will be collected as part of this study and your answers will remain anonymous. Because your answers will not be identifiable, we are unable to retract your data once you click the final submit button. Data may be made publicly available in an online database for open science purposes, but it will be without any personally identifying information. Anonymous results will be used in a student research report and may be presented at conferences or published in journals, books, and the popular media. If you would like a summary of the results, this can be made available to you upon request from the researchers.
