You are invited to take part in our research study, carried out by the School of Psychology at the University of Glasgow. The following information explains why the research is being conducted and what it will involve. It is important that you read and understand this before you decide to participate in the study. If you have any questions about the following information or the study in general, please do ask.
What is the purpose of the study?
The purpose of this study is to explore how lecturers’ conceptions of teaching and student learning are related to beliefs about the recording of traditional, didactic, face-to-face lectures. Current quantitative literature has focused primarily on how students perceive/use lecture recordings and whether or not they have a positive effect on attainment. Data from lecturers has largely been qualitative, and limited to beliefs about lecture recordings rather than considering attitudes towards learning and teaching more generally.
What does my participation involve?
Your participation in this study involves completing an on-line survey questionnaire that will take you approximately 15 minutes. You will be asked to answer demographic questions, a set of questions about your conceptions of teaching and student learning, and then a set of questions about beliefs with regard to lecture recordings.
Why have I been chosen and do I have to take part?
You have been invited to take part in this study because you are a university lecturer. We are going to ask you questions about your conceptions of teaching and student learning and your beliefs about lecture recording. We would like you to provide your answers based on your own teaching experience.
You are not required to accept this invitation, and we are happy to answer any of your questions regarding the study. You are able to withdraw from the study at any point without stating a reason by closing the browser window.
Will my taking part in this study be kept confidential?
The data that you provide during this study will be anonymous. The data will be stored on a GDPR compliant server and only the named researchers will have access to the full dataset. Should the dataset be made available to the wider research community, age and gender, will be removed to prevent potential identification through multiple demographic variables.
What will happen to the results of the research study?
The results of the study will be reported in a student dissertation project for the MSc Psychological Studies programme. Additionally, the results of the study will be written up and submitted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal and posted as a pre-print. A brief report about the research findings will be sent to you upon via email upon request.
Who can I contact if I want more information?
