An investigation of attitudes towards mental health conditions

  • Invitation to participate

You are being invited to take part in a research study. Before you decide it is important for you to understand why the research is being done and what it will involve. Please read the following information carefully and take time to decide whether or not you wish to take part.

  • What is the purpose of the study?

The purpose of this study is to explore attitudes towards mental health conditions.

  • Do I have to take part?

No, you can choose whether or not you would like to take part in this research. If you do decide to take part, you remain free to withdraw from the study up until you click the final submit button. You must be over the age of 16 to take part in this study.

  • What will happen to me if I take part?

You will be asked to complete a series of questionnaires related to attitudes towards four mental health conditions. Following this, you will be asked to complete a questionnaire on Disgust.

  • What are the possible disadvantages and risks of taking part in the study?

There are no anticipated disadvantages in taking part. However, if you feel that you may be unduly affected by either the items related to mental health, or the items related to disgust, please discontinue your participation.

  • What are the possible benefits of taking part in the study?

You will not be compensated for your participation, however the findings of this study will help to develop an understanding of attitudes towards mental health conditions.

  • Will my taking part in this study be kept confidential?

Confidentiality and anonymity will be maintained as the questionnaires will be conducted anonymously using GDPR compliant software. Your data will be entirely anonymous so once you submit your data will be no way of linking your responses to you. If you wish to withdraw from the study, you must discontinue before you press submit.

  • What will happen to my data?

Your data is entirely anonymous and unidentifiable and will be gathered using GDPR compliant software and stored on a secure server. Data collected will be reported and analysed in an undergraduate dissertation research project. Results from the study will be presented at an undergraduate conference and submitted for publication. If you would like a summary of the results, this can be made available to you upon request.

  • Who has reviewed the study?

This study has been approved by the University of Glasgow College of Science and Engineering Ethics Committee.
