What is the purpose of this study?

The purpose of this study is to investigate whether a Foreign Language Effect can be found in the domain of reasoning. The Foreign Language Effect is a phenomenon which describes bilinguals’ tendency to be less susceptible to biases when communicating in their second language, and it has been observed in many different domains. Interestingly, previous research has reported a decline in reasoning performance in the second language, also known as the "inverse Foreign Language Effect". The aim of this study is to examine whether these findings can be replicated. To accomplish this, you were instructed to complete some reasoning problems in either your first language or your second language, and later the overall performances in these two conditions will be compared.

Further information about the topic if you are interested.

If you wish to find out more about the Foreign Language Effect, the 2021 meta-analysis by Circi et al. is a great place to start. Additionally, if you are interested in the literature so far surrounding the Foreign Language Effect in reasoning, the 2020 study by Białek et al. offers some interesting insights.
