Thank you for taking part inour validation study! The purpose of this study is to validate the newly constructed EDLX scale (emotional distance in second language) with different measures (Ratings of affective words, moral dilemma and language proficiency). Previous studies have found that bilingual speakers experienced less emotional resonance in their second languages and had greater affective feelings in their first languages. When bilinguals think and make moral decisions in their second language, they tend to be less deontological, more utilitarian and less likely to be influenced by decision biases. Ratings of affective words, moral dilemma and language proficiency are three common measures to examine the Foreign Language Effect among bilinguals, which is why we have chosen to use these three measures to validate the EDLX scale. Your responses will only be used for psychometric scale validation (examining correlations and predictive relationships between different measures) and will not be used to test a hypothesis or answer a specific research question as such.
