The Effects of Formal Recognition on Personality

Invitation and brief summary

My name is Jay McDonald and I am a level 4 Psychology student at the University of Glasgow. You are being invited to take part in a research project. Before you decide to take part, it is important for you to understand why the research is being done and what it will involve. Please take time to read the following information carefully and discuss it with others if you wish. Participants must be above 16 to take part in this experiment. We are interested in all students currently studying any subject, at any level. This allows the study to cover a wide range of students.

Brief Summary

We are interested in investigating personality in students at the University of Glasgow.

What's involved if I agree to take part?

You will be asked to complete a questionnaire about personality and behaviour, asked 2 times over 2 weeks, and watch a short informative video, approx. 2 minutes long. Each questionnaire will take 5 minutes, and the video will take 2 minutes. Due to the short time, no breaks should be taken. This can be completed in your own home. You have the right to refuse participation, and withdraw from the experiment at any stage, with no penalty or reason given.

Confidentiality and protection of your data

We will take all appropriate measures to ensure your data is GDPR protected. Data will be stored on a secure computer, avoiding Google Drive and other filesharing websites etc. to prevent any outside access. Only the researcher will have access to the data. Any personal identifiable information collected in the experiment will be kept anonymous and will remain confidential to the research team.

Who is organising this research?

This research is being conducted as part of a dissertation by a level 4 Psychology student. The research is supervised by Dr Lorna Morrow (lorna.morrow@glasgow.ac.uk) and the research has been granted ethical approval in accordance with the Ethics Committee of the College of Science and Engineering, University of Glasgow.
