We invite you to take part in our research study. Prior to your decision, we would like to explain the reason why this study is being conducted and what it will involve. Therefore, we will provide you with the following information and kindly ask you to take some time to read through carefully all the information on this page and do not hesitate to ask any questions you may have.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS STUDY?

We aim to investigate how social media use and physical activity are related to students' sleep and academic patterns.

WHY HAVE I BEEN CHOSEN?

You have been chosen to participate in this survey because you have accepted the invitation through social media or via Glasgow University’s experiments platform "SONA".

DO I HAVE TO TAKE PART?

Participation in this study is voluntary, and you can decide whether you will participate based on the information on this sheet. If you decide to take part, you are still free to withdraw at any time and without giving a reason. Participants must be undergraduate or postgraduate students, have no sleep disorder diagnosis, and be either native English speaker or speak English at a proficient level.

WILL MY TAKING PART IN THIS STUDY BE KEPT CONFIDENTIAL?

All the participants' responses will remain strictly confidential and anonymous. A number ID will represent each participant instead of their name and all the personal information will be held in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE RESULTS OF THIS RESEARCH?

You can contact us or our supervisor to ask for the summary of the results as soon as the investigation and the data analysis is completed. The data will be stored following the University of Glasgow retention policy of up to 10 years. Once the retention period expires, your data will be securely destroyed.
