Study Title: Investigation into how language backgrounds can affect belies of alcohol consumption.

You are about to participate in an online questionnaire study looking at how a person’s language background may affect their beliefs about health behaviours, specifically alcohol use. It is important for you to understand why the research is being conducted and what it will involve. Please take time to read the following information carefully.

What is the purpose of the study?

The purpose of the study is to investigate how a person’s language background may affect their health beliefs. You are invited to take part in the study because you are a bilingual speaker who speaks English as a second language, or a monolingual English speaker.

If you speak two languages on a daily basis (your first language and English), you qualify as a bilingual for the purpose of this study.

What will the study involve?

The study will involve answering some generic demographic questions and completing a short questionnaire, where you will rate statements about your beliefs about alcohol use on a scale. You will be required to sit in front of a computer for the duration of the time.

What are the possible risks/ side effects of taking part?

There are no known risks or side effects associated with the equipment or procedure. The task should take no more than 10 minutes.

Do I have to take part?

No, participation is voluntary, and you can withdraw at any point before or during the experiment by closing your browser, in which case your data will be deleted.

Will my taking part in this study be kept confidential?

All data will be kept confidential and treated in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (2018). Your data will be assigned an anonymous participant ID and your name will not appear anywhere.

What will happen to the results of the research study?

All data will be analysed confidentially and using the anonymous participants ID’s. The findings of the study will be available on request once the analysis is completed.
