You are being invited to take part in a research study. Before you decide to take part, it is important for you to understand why the research is being conducted and what it will involve. Please take time to review all information before proceeding.

What is the purpose of the study?

The purpose of the study is to investigate the relationship between the presence of certain personality traits and aim to understand how it effects sleep, pro-social engagement on social media and night-time social media usage among adolescents.

Do I have to take part?

No, your participation in this research is voluntary. If you do agree to take part, you will be asked to provide consent by continuing online. If you choose not to take part, you can withdraw from the study at any point without giving a reason. In this case, participant data and responses will be destroyed and not included in the analysis. Participants must be between the ages of 16-20 years old.

Will my taking part in this study be kept confidential?

No personally identifying information will be captured from you, however we will ask you a few questions to enable us to identify your responses which will enable you to withdraw should you choose to do so. Taking part in this study is entirely confidential. If you wish to withdraw from the study, you must discontinue before completing the study.

What will happen to the results of the research study?

Your data is entirely anonymous and unidentifiable and will be gathered using GDPR compliant software and stored on a secure server. In accordance with University guidelines data will be securely stored for a period of ten years using university approved software. Data, without any personal identifying information, may be made publicly available in an online database for future research surrounding this area of psychology. The results of this study will be presented in an undergraduate student psychology dissertation. If you would like a summary of the results, these can be requested by emailing the researchers.
