Study title: Can acoustical parameters of speakers’ voice predict the perceived emotionality of listeners?

Invitation

You are being invited to take part in a sound study. It is important for you to understand why the research is being conducted and what it will involve. Please read the following information carefully. If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact the researcher directly and decide whether or not you wish to take part.

Purpose of the Study

This study aims to understand the influences of acoustical parameters of speakers’ voice on the perceived emotionality of listeners for both genders. Furthermore, acoustical parameters will be discussed whether it could be a predictor of the perceived emotionality of listeners.

Description of the Study Procedures

You will be given voices firstly, and then you could rate how emotionally expressive the voices is from 1 to 7 which refers to not expressive to very expressive. Your age and sex will be recorded, and you will be also asked whether you are a native speaker of english and have you lived in Scotland.

Do I have to take part?

No, you do not need to. This study is completely voluntary, and you can withdraw at any time without submitting any data during the experiment. However, this study is entirely non-invasive, and we do not expect to constitute any risk to you.

Will my taking part in this study be kept confidential?

Your data will be anonymously saved and communicated by only using group averages. We may also use your anonymised data (data without any personal identifiers) for educational purposes in our lab and for the purpose of sharing with other scientists as part of open science initiatives. By giving consent to take part, please be aware that tour data will be shared. However, you will be given a choice at the end of the experiment to remove your data from further analysis.
