You are invited to take part in our research study, carried out by the School of Psychology at the University of Glasgow. The following information explains why the research is being conducted and what it will involve. It is important that you read and understand this before you decide to participate in the study. If you have any questions about the following information or the study in general, please do ask. 

2. What is the purpose of the study?

The purpose of this study is to investigate possible predictors of swearing frequency and attitudes towards swearing itself. We will look at factors which affect both how frequently a person swears as well as factors which predict their attitudes towards swearing. You will be given more information about these factors at the end of the study.

3. What does my participation involve?

Your participation in this study will involve answering a series of three short questionnaires abut swearing and other social attitudes, and a set of demographic questions. In total this should take approximately 10 minutes.

4. Why have I been chosen, and do I have to take part?

You have been invited to take part in this study because you fit the population specification of being aged 18 years old or over. You are not required to accept this invitation. Your participation is not part of any summative assignment and does not count towards the grade of any course/unit, and we are happy to answer any of your questions regarding the study. Contact information of the project lead is provided at the beginning of this Information Form. You are able to withdraw from the study at any point without stating a reason by closing the browser window.

5. Will my taking part in this study be kept confidential?

The data that you provide during this study will be anonymous. The data will be stored on a GDPR compliant server and only the named researchers will have access to the full dataset.

6. What will happen to the results of the study?

The results of the study will be reported in a student dissertation project for the MA(SoSci) Psychology programme. Additionally, the results of the study will be written up and submitted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal. A brief report about the research findings will be sent to you via email upon request.
