You are invited to participate in this voice study. It is important that you understand what is involved in participating in this study and the purpose of the research. Purpose of study
Previous research of voice perceptions have suggested that how we perceive an individuals voice can provide information about the speaker. This study aims to investigate different factor effects on perceived voice emotionality and expressiveness.
Description of study procedures
Participants will be asked to complete a short demographics questionnaire, including age, gender and level of study. Participants will be presented with two questions, one asking them to rate the emotionality of the voices on a scale of 1 to 7 (1 being not very emotional, 7 being very emotional), the other asking them to rate the expressiveness of the voices on a scale of 1 to 7 (1 being not very expressive, 7 being very expressive). Participants will rate 40 voice clips of varying length on both emotionality and expressiveness.
Do I have to take part?
No, you do not have to participate in this study. This study is completely voluntary, and you can withdraw from the study at any time without providing a reason. This study is non-invasive, and we do not expect that it will constitute any risk to you.
Will my taking part in the study be confidential?
Your data will be saved anonymously and will be communicated via group averages only. Anonymised data may be used for educational purposes in the lab and for the purpose of sharing with other scientists in the interests of open science initiatives. Please be aware that by consenting to participate in this study the data you provide will be shared. You will be given the choice at the end of the experiment to remove data from further analysis.
